El Santo Viewpoint

Mirador del Santo: A Project of Architecture and Nature

View project details

Finished in 2010
The Mirador del Santo is located in the western part of La Gomera, near the picturesque village of Arure. Its name comes from the nearby chapel, Ermita del Santo, an emblematic place that adds a cultural touch to the viewing experience. From this strategic point, visitors can enjoy an impressive view of the deep Taguluche valley. This expansive gorge, which houses the village of the same name, is surrounded by steep rocky slopes, creating a volcanic landscape complemented by the green palm groves scattered throughout the ravine and the deep blue of the sea.

Design of the Mirador Restaurant

The design of the mirador restaurant not only offers a gastronomic experience but also provides an unparalleled panoramic view over Taguluche, with a drop of more than 800 meters. The restaurant area is designed to create the illusion of being suspended over the void, allowing diners to enjoy a breathtaking view.

Access to the restaurant is provided through two routes:
1. Tunnel Access: A 60-meter-long tunnel traverses the mountain, taking visitors directly to the restaurant.
2. Old Access: This access point is located above the hill and leads to a plaza that serves as the roof of the restaurant, where the mirador area and the chapel are also situated.

Materials and Sustainability

The design of the mirador has been carefully conceived to respect the natural landscape and local traditions. Natural volcanic stone from La Gomera has been used, along with corten steel for the bases of the doors.
